Hair and Eyebrow Rules: Keeping Your Biometrics Visible

The Eyebrow Rule

In many countries (including the UK and many EU nations), both eyebrows must be clearly visible. Biometric software uses the distance between eyebrows and other facial features as a key identifier. If you have long bangs, pin them to the side.

Hair and Face Outlines

Your hair should not cover your eyes or the edges of your face. For those with voluminous or very long hair, ensure it is tucked behind your shoulders or ears so the full oval of your face is clear to the scanner.

Hair Accessories

Avoid large headbands, bows, or decorative clips. These can be mistaken for part of the head structure or cause shadows. Simple, thin hair ties or 'bobby pins' that blend in are perfectly acceptable.
