You should take your photo matching how you look most days. If you take the photo with a massive lumberjack beard, and shave it completely bare two years later, your passport remains 100% valid. Human border agents are trained to identify bone structure beneath facial hair.

The Neck Boundary

The only time a very long beard causes an issue is if it extends beyond the bottom frame of the crop and obscures the baseline of your neck/shoulders, making it difficult for the background-removal algorithm to define the lower boundary.
