The Absolute Ban in the US

First, a reminder: if you are applying for a US passport or US Visa, glasses are strictly forbidden. However, many European and Asian countries still permit them, provided there is zero flash reflection.

The 'Tilt Down' Technique

When light from a flash or window hits your lenses at a 90-degree angle, it bounces straight back into the camera. To fix this, gently tilt your glasses down slightly on the bridge of your nose, or tilt your chin down by a millimeter. This deflects the reflection toward the floor instead of the camera.

Thick Frames and Tinted Lenses

Even without glare, thick plastic frames that cast a shadow over your eyelid or obscure the corner of your eye will cause a rejection. Transition lenses (photochromic) that have darkened even slightly from UV light are universally banned.
