The Odd / Even Birth Year Rule

For internal Indonesian ID cards (KTP) and historically for many KITAS (residency) applications, the required background color depends entirely on your birth year. If you were born in an odd year (e.g., 1987, 1993), the background must be Red. If born in an even year (e.g., 1988, 1994), it must be Blue.

Visa On Arrival vs. Long Term Visas

For standard digital Tourist E-Visas (B211A) and Visa On Arrival, a standard white background is universally accepted by the digital portal. The red/blue rule primarily applies to physical applications processed domestically within Indonesia.

The 4x6 cm Dimension

Regardless of the background color, the physical size required for Indonesian immigration documents is almost always 4x6 centimeters, aligning with the Southeast Asian standard.
